Our church is formally affiliated with The Vineyard Movement, founded by John Wimber in southern California in the early 1980′s. The Vineyard is a worldwide family of nearly two thousand churches, divided into global regions, with an overall emphasis on growth through planting new churches. Our region is Vineyard USA, and within that, we are part of the “eastern region,” which consists of about 70 churches from Maine to Pennsylvania. The Vineyard is a kind of modern denomination but without the top-down trappings of more traditional denominations. It is a “values” driven association, within which a great deal of diversity of expression and belief is permitted so long as basic “Vineyard values” (such as biblical teaching, contemporary worship in the freedom of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit in operation, ministry to the poor, unity within the whole body of Christ, etc.) are held to. Vineyard area and regional leaders provide support and help when requested by local Vineyards but do not exert control unless serious doctrinal or moral challenges exist in a church.
