As with everything here at VCF, becoming part of us depends on relationship. The greater your depth of relationship to people here at VCF, and the greater your commitment to the vision of VCF, the greater your involvement will be. Standing on the outside, however, it can look quite intimidating to build relationships and get involved. Here is a process we have set up that should aid you in this.
Relationship is foundational to becoming part of this church. Without it we feel alone and not "part of things." So the first step to becoming a member is to build relationships. This is done through attending Sunday mornings regularly, staying after on Sunday mornings to meet and talk to people, going to potlucks, picnics, and cookouts, and attending other regional gatherings and meetings during the week at the church. Also, as has already been stated, joining a kinship group is vital to becoming a member of this church. We also offer the "Party with the Pastors" every few months, and we encourage you to attend several of those so we can get to know each other better!
Once you have gotten to know us, and truly feel God has called you to be part of us, then we invite you to get together with a pastor to talk more thoroughly about membership, the church, and any other questions you may have. This time gives us a chance to get to know you better as well, and to begin to build a meaningful relationship.
After you have met with a pastor, you are then invited to consider joining our church. Below we outline expectations we have of members. Before becoming a member, we will ask you to agree to these expectations. We also have outlined below what you can expect from us as a church.
We like to "set in" our members at their kinship or small group. When you are ready to make this commitment your kinship will take some time at a meeting to pray with you and welcome you into membership. Then on a Sunday morning following that, we will announce you to the entire church and pray briefly for you there as well.
At your meeting with a pastor, you will receive a packet of spiritual gift assessment materials. These will help you work with a pastor to find a place of ministry/service in the body that is fulfilling to you and meaningful to others. It will help you define where your passion is, and we will work with you to find or create a place in this body.
